Johnny Weir: A Decade of Achievement
Just eight months after his stand-out stint as a 2014 Winter Olympics figure skating commentator, Johnny Weir is bringing the conversation forward in a more permanent role. Weir, alongside fellow figure skater and fan favorite Tara Lipinski, has been promoted to the No. 1 slot as the expert figure skating analyst for NBC Sports. The adventure begins with two hours of live coverage at the Skate America event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at the end of the month.
Johnny is a longtime Riedell friend and skater. We couldn’t be more excited to see him become a leading voice for our beloved sport of figure skating as his career continues to take off after his retirement from competitive skating last year. In honor of Johnny’s newest gig, let’s take a look at some of the most defining moments of Johnny’s career over the past decade:
Competitive Figure Skating
- 2004, 2005, 2006 U.S. National Champion – Johnny was the first skater to win this title three times in a row since Brian Boitano in the late 1980s!
- 2006 Winter Olympics, 5th place
- 2008 World Championship, Bronze
- 2008 & 2010 US Figure Skating/Skating Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for Skater of the Year
- 2010 Winter Olympics, 6th place

- 2014 Winter Olympics – Johnny provided figure skating and fashion commentary for NBC Sports alongside Tara Lipinksi
- 2014 86th Academy Awards – Johnny appeared as a fashion commentator for Access Hollywood alongside Tara Lipinksi and host Billy Bush
