January Is National Skating Month

Competition season is in full swing, and the 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships are coming up on January 20th in Wichita, Kansas. What better time to celebrate our favorite month of the year: National Skating Month!
U.S. Figure Skating describes this nod to our favorite sport as “an opportunity for rinks, member clubs and programs to celebrate skating.” How do we do that? By inviting friends, family and the community to National Skating Month events! It’s a perfect time to offer skating lessons, promote skating clubs, and get people interested in the sport.
For many people, ice skating feels intimidating. By sharing our passion and welcoming others into the skating community, we can encourage people to try something new. What better way to celebrate than introducing someone to an activity and sport we’ve all grown to love?
How Are You Celebrating? Share Your Skating Story!
The theme of this year’s National Skating Month is “Skating is for Everyone!” We couldn’t agree more. That’s why we encourage all of our skaters to share their stories and be part of our community.
We have a special section on our website dedicated to our skaters. Contact us with your own skating story. You could be the next member of Team Riedell!
What Month Is National Skate Month?
National Skating Month occurs every year in January and is jam-packed with events and activities. The original organizers saw it as a way to introduce new people to ice skating and encourage them to try something new. Today, organizations across the U.S. celebrate the holiday by hosting National Skating Month events.
Is There A National Skate Day?
The event goes global with World Ice Skating Day, which occurs annually on December 15th. Across different continents, skating rinks use this day to host public events celebrating figure skating, synchronized skating, and speed skating.
What Day Is National Roller Skating Day?
Looking for off-ice skating fun? Well, good news: October is National Roller Skating Month. Yes, an entire month to enjoy the nostalgia of skating through your neighborhood or a local roller rink. Roller skating is also a great way to work on balance before venturing out on the skating rink.
